Sigma 30mm f/1.4 vs. Canon 32mm f/1.4 / Which is Better?

Sigma has released a new 30mm prime lens for Canon EF-M mount cameras. The lens has a huge maximum aperture of f/1.4, making it an affordable, powerful lens to use in low light environments, portraits, street photography, or anything which would benefit from a fast lens with a standard focal length.

But the Sigma isn’t the only game in town. Canon also offers its own 32mm EF-M prime lens with the same maximum aperture of f/1.4 and (nearly) the same focal length.

Which begs the question — if you own an EF-M mount camera, which lens is the better buy? Which lens produces the best color? Which lens performs best in low light? Which lens is sharper?

To find out, I got my hands on both lenses and put them through a variety of tests. For comparison, I also bring in the M50’s kit lens — the Canon EF-M 15-45mm — to see how it compares. So if you’ve been using only the kit lens with your Canon EF-M mount camera, this should give you an idea of what you’ll get when purchasing one of these lenses.
