Working with boring skies and harsh light in landscape photography

Recommendations when dealing with both types of light from the Oregon Coast

During my recent trip to the Oregon coast, I also made use of the hours between sunset and sunrise to scout locations and capture landscapes. On two occasions, the sunlight was either completely blocked by thick haze or was uncomfortably bright and clear. Both times I considered packing up my camera and calling it a day, but instead, I chose to work with the challenging conditions.
